Australia Day at SSCBC, sponsored by Jellis Craig

A fantastic Australia Day was celebrated at SSCBC on 26 January. The day kicked off with free pancakes with syrup and ice cream from the Galley, followed by the start of the Buxton Cup. The Optis got out early while the breeze lasted, so we made the most of it in the morning, delaying the Australia Day ceremony until nearly lunch time. We had Charlie Sillypants and the bubble lady, who also creatively painted the kids’ faces.

We enjoyed the Australia Day ceremony on the lawn, with speeches from Commodore Georgie Silverwood and Club Captain, Tim Collett. Maddison sang the Australian National Anthem beautifully. Jellis Craig generously provided t-shirts for the kids and Couta Boat sailors. Unfortunatly the breeze died, so racing for the Couta Boats was abandoned. We will reschedule sailing of the Jellis Craig Three Piers Race to another day. Congratulations to all the Opti sailors, including their parents who took part in the annual parents’ race!

Thank you especially to Jellis Craig Sorrento: Emil Foller, Andrew McCann and Claire Smith for their support. Also to Richard Buxton for coming along to assist with presentations and handing over the beautiful Buxton Cup.
