We’re thrilled to welcome the following highly regarded Coaches to SSCBC for the coaching clinic to be held 9-12 April 2026 as part of the Zhik Youth Sail Vic event. Get your entries in now for both the coaching clinic and the regatta.
Mark Tonner-Joyce
ILCA Lead Coach – 40+yrs sailor, coach, mentor, teacher. From first timers to Olympic aspirants. Brings purposeful play, and game sense to every stage. ILCAVIC Head Coach & coach of coaches. Multi-award winner, growing people through sailing for life.
Will McKenzie
Currently VIODA State Optimist coach and has worked with top Optimist Squads at both National and State level, with years of high level coaching experience.
Jack Lewis
Previous Australian Sailing Vic Coach of the Year, National Optimist Coach 2025-26 and Coach of the European Opti Team. A past member of the Victorian Optimist Sailing Team, Jack has been coaching optimists for the last 7 years and brings extensive experience to the Opti fleet.
Harry Sly
29er State Coach, with a wealth of experience. Harry has been the most influential coach of the 29 class for the past decade. He is currently participating in J70 high performance sailing nationally.
Angelique Gleeson
Extremely passionate coach, works locally with Sorrento Optimist fleets and instils great foundations with young sailors.
David White
David started sailing in his Optimist 24 years ago in Ireland and progressed down the Laser, 420 and University Team Racing pathway. David is specialised in Optimist Class and has worked with the class for 16 years. including most recently as Worlds Optimist Coach. He was the VIODA State Coach from 2012-2015. Leader of SSCBC’s Sailing Centre, an active croquet player and is the Club Captain at Edinburgh Gardens Croquet Club.
Natalie Gleeson
New to coaching but has a wealth of knowledge to share and is eager to work with younger sailors.
Ellen Juhasz
ILCA sailor and coach, experienced in both competing and coaching on the North American and European circuit. Well acquainted with working towards World Championships, transitional stages from junior to senior classes, and everything in between.
James Jackson
Driven by the sailors’ desire to learn, I’ve come off the back of 5 years with the Victorian Institute of Sport with experience overseas sailing Optimists, 420s, 470s and J70s. Looking forward to two days of helping sailors enjoy what sailing has to offer.
Lucas James
2025 Australian Sailing (National) Instructor of the Year. Minnow: International and National level regatta experience across Minnows, Optis, Open Skiffs, Sabres, Pacers and ILCAs. Currently a lead coach at BYS and coaching a school sailing team.
Michael Arnold
Micheal is returning for his third year with the Sabre youth fleet and is passionate to share his knowledge with the young sailors.
Josh Becker
Josh is returning to coach the ILCA fleet, with extensive knowledge and experience and watching the young sailors develop and grow. Josh joins us from NSW for this Champsionship.
Tony Bull
Winner of the 2025 Australian Sailing Victoria Coach of the Year. Tony is our most experienced coach a the Vic Youths and his passion for cadets is unrivalled.
Amelia Catt
Amelia is the Australian Sailing head coach for Victoria and will be supporting the coaches at this event.
Dmitry Sorkin
Dmitry is a wealth of knowledge in the Optimist class after competing in the European Championships. Now he has completed VCE, he is focusing on his sailing coaching.
Josh Golinski
Josh is open skiff Victorian coach and is helping to grow the open skiff fleet.
Grant Wilmott
Grant is a mentor coach, working spceifically with the Minnow and open skiff classes, but more broadly will be instrumental in mentoring all of our junior and youth sailors by laying the foundations for successful racing and encouraging them to manage expectations.
Julia Mackinnon
Julia will be working with the Optimist Green fleet. Julia is SSCBC’s Sailing Manager and will be able to provide extensive local knowledge to sailors.
