Cygnett Victorian Optimist State Titles

The Cygnett Victorian State Titles was well represented by SSCBC with 23 Team Sorrento sailors competing! The three day regatta was excellently run by Sandringham Yacht Club, getting in the targeted nine races which had a range of conditions, which is what you want to determine State Champion. The on water fleet had 80 boats, but they were made up of all five of the travelling Worlds team, so it was highly competitive at the top end.

Our Team Sorrento entourage did the Club very proud, helping out with canteen duty, course boat, start boat and on land support. Parents on the water did a great job fuelling our kids with food and jellies for the last race which enabled myself and Jack Lewis to focus on developing our sailors. In the Green fleet, Ashton Brodecky just missed out on the podium finishing 4^th place.

In the Intermediates, the development of our sailors was huge over the nine races. In particular, Savannah Deeth and Isabelle Tucker, who recently graduated from Green fleet, both showed they can be amongst the top groups.

In the Open Fleet, so many sailors had great performances. A special mention to Miles Levenspiel who missed out on the podium but sailed his best regatta with hot competition around him. Lottie Griffith sailed an excellent regatta and was crowned the female Victorian Champion. Aidan Simmons, who was working with Rob Brewer, his Worlds coach, put in an incredible performance recording seven out nine wins and was crowned the 2022 Cygnett Victorian State Title.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our coaching staff at Team Sorrento and in particular, Jack Lewis, who works with the State team and leads our Team Sorrento sailors.
