Important message from the Commodore

Dear Members,

Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club takes great pride in being an inclusive Club for all members, guests and staff. We are very proud of the number of females we have on the water, whether that be participating in sailing, coaching and instructing, volunteering as race committee or race officer or working as part of our Sailing team. Our Club’s commitment to this is evident through our SheSails taskforce, set up in 2021 with the purpose of re-engaging women to participate in all aspects of sailing, and to reduce any barriers that prevent women getting involved.

It is therefore very disappointing that over recent months there have been instances of language and behaviour that do not uphold our Clubs values, or promote an inclusive environment for women in our Club. This has included behaviour and comments directed towards both our female sailors and female employees, all of which is unacceptable.

Our Club operates under a Code of Conduct Policy, that is supported and integrated with the National Integrity Framework that Australian Sailing has adopted for all sailing clubs. This policy is in place to ensure that people can participate in a safe, fair and inclusive environment. All Members and guests are expected to adhere to this policy at all times, both on and off the water, when visiting the Club or participating in Club activities. Where members fail to do so then disciplinary action will be taken, as has already occurred this year. A copy of the SSCBC Code of Conduct can be found at www.sscbc.com.au/code-of-conduct.

I ask all members to be aware and conscious of their behaviour at the Club, ensuring that SSCBC is an inclusive and respectful environment for all.

Should you have any questions or concerns please refer to the information on our website, or feel free to contact me directly.

Regards

Georgie Silverwood
