Learn to Sail

Whether you are brand new to the water or looking to refresh your skills, our sailing programs offer a safe, supportive and fun way to get started. Designed for all ages and experience levels, we provide hands-on instruction, small group sizes and a welcoming community that makes learning enjoyable at every stage.

Sailing at SSCBC is encouraged for life and we have something for everyone, depending on age, ability, goals and aspirations. Some join us most weekends for a social sail on a Couta Boat; others graduate from our Learn to Sail programs and move into our Team Sorrento group, providing regular coaching, competition and high performance pathways. Whatever your passion, we welcome you to the Club to experience for yourself the joys of sailing – encouraging teamwork, building resilience, decision making skills, confidence, fitness and an appreciation and enjoyment of our beautiful environment at Sorrento.

Our Learn to Sail programs are designed to give students a positive first experience on the water. Led by fully qualified Australian Sailing instructors and meeting the required instructor to student ratios, our courses are based on a nationally recognised syllabus to ensure students get the most out of their course.

The first step to our junior pathway is Cara na Mara, meaning “Friends of The Sea” for 5–7 year olds.

Where it all begins for our 7-11 year olds, involving three levels: Stripy Squad Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3.

Aimed to engage 12-17 year olds, OutThere Sailing provides teenagers with the opportunity to experience Club life at SSCBC.

Learnt to sail one of our iconic Couta Boats: Couta Crew, Couta Racing and Couta Cruise.

Ideal for those aged 18+ to get out on dinghies and learn the basics.
