Australian Sailing has released a new strategic plan with some familiar items but there are also a few new initiatives that could have quite an impact.
Australian Sailing Strategic Plan
The plan runs from 2018 to 2020 and these aspects will be interesting to watch out for:
2018
- National Day pass system to be put in place; this is likely to mean that sailors who are not members would pay a fee to sail
- Implement a new Youth Development / pathway model
- Club fees are harmonised Nationally: Victorian clubs are likely to be net beneficiaries of this process
2019
- Develop a ‘Tacker like’ program for secondary school aged children: SSCBC leads this space with our Teens in Pacers, we will also be involved in the pilot program.
- Increase in female participation, membership and leadership nationally: Very interesting subject, GBR, ESP and USA recently fielded a big increase in mixed teams at the 420 Worlds in Newport Rhode Island – Will we go down the same path to increase female participation and aligning to the new mixed Olympic Dinghy events?
- Engage to agree on actions to achieve diversity objectives in decision makers: This will be an interesting space to watch
2020
- Develop a new parent friendly program
- Develop a New Entry program for clubs (aquatic): This is for kites, boards and paddling
