Winter Series 3 June

The BOM morning forecast firmed up a little and the 4 predict wind models indicated East and South East breezes. With the models  basicaly aligned it was appropriate to be optimistic. Gillie D was out early on the course area getting consistent 5 knot breezes so the fleet headed out.

Just before the Warning Signals the breeze eased off a bit and the clever boats used their engines to position up tide until just before the 4 minute Prep Signal.

With the breeze at 110 degrees, Div 1 was set an E3 course starting just below and to the left of Centre mark and Div 2 had an E2 course.

In an irony we went for a laid start this week but had we stuck with the Box start it would have been a pretty true beat to S Mark.

Mystify and Lucy made the best choices up wind and excelled in the light air, rounding the first mark well clear of their rivals before ‘rocketing’ down to North mark with the ebb tide to extend their lead on their fleets.

By the time they had completed the triangle, the breeze had picked up and tide was less of a factor and they held their leads to take line honours and the handicap double.

A neat feature of the race was our newest budding Race Officer – Bosun Chance Bobridge conducted the racing with Ben backing him up on Gillie D and with Fred and Kerry in the tower.

Thanks everyone it was a fun sail. Full results are here  https://sscbc.com.au/raceresults/2017/Couta/winter/series.htm
