On Sunday 16 February, SSCBC hosted the final race in the Sorrento 2020 RS:X Club Championships to determine who would be crowned the Sorrento RS:X Club Champion, as the lead up regatta to the RS:X Worlds commencing on 23 February 2020.

SSCBC is delighted to be hosting the 2020 RS:X World Windsurfing Championships after only being awarded this privilege a few short months ago following the announcement that Takapuna Boating Club, New Zealand, withdrew as the hosting club. SSCBC was asked to submit an application to host this World Championships and against 13 other bids, SSCBC was selected, receiving 5 votes from the selection panel, compared with China 1 and Europe 2. SSCBC would like to acknowledge the support received from the Victorian State Government to run this event at short notice.
Over the past 6 weeks, SSCBC has been welcoming competitors to the Club as they arrive from all over the World to begin their preparation for this Olympic class event. Each competitor has been provided a temporary membership to the Club, enabling them to enjoy the facilities whilst they continue their training program in the lead up to the World Championships. The Club has provided board storage racks for competitors, with the brightly coloured RS:X boards somewhat juxtaposed against the traditional timber Couta Boats on the moorings close to shore.

Watching the RS:X sailors return to shore after their daily training races and weaving amongst the moored boats has also given SSCBC Members plenty to watch from the deck.
