Australia Day at SSCBC, supported by RT Edgar

Australia Day at SSCBC was filled with Opti sailors for the second day of the Buxton Cup and Couta Boat sailors for the RT Edgar Three Piers Race. The kids enjoyed a t-shirt from RT Edgar, and there were also some goodies for the adult sailors, including Champagne as prizes and food and drinks for the presentations, courtesy of RT Edgar.

Our special guests, Alistair Murry from Australian Sailing and Malcolm Page OAM who interviewed our Tokyo Olympians: Tess Lloyd, Jaime Ryan, Will Phillips and Sam Phillips.

The juniors enjoyed asking their Olympic idols some questions, including “have you ever had an animal jump in your boat?” “What inspired you to try for the Olympics?”, “What is the scariest animal you have seen out on the water?” “How did you start sailing?”, “What keeps you going when you’re feeling down or there’s bad weather?” “Is it hard sailing with your brother [Sam & Will]?”

The Australian National Anthem was sung by local talent, Madison Bailey, followed by John Farnham’s “You’re The Voice”. Thank you to everyone who attended.

The Buxton Cup was sailed in challenging condititions for our younger competitors, with some gusts of 25 knots, but they persisted and completed their races. Congratulations to everyone who participated.
