Fundraising

Raised $474,389.84!

So far, over 50 individuals and families have contributed to the redevelopment (see below). SSCBC is sincerely grateful to each and every supporter who has kindly donated. We would like to invite you to choose to support the Clubhouse redevelopment, whether your interest lies in junior sailing, our historic Couta Boats or our community involvement and events. We will deliver a world-class facility for our young sailors all the way through to social members.

There are different levels of giving, based on an individual or family and their level of comfort. Your generosity is truly appreciated. You may choose to make a one off contribution, or consider becoming a patron of the Club, pledging money over a number of years.

Donations to our fund can be made at any time and are fully tax deductible (when made online via Australian Sports Foundation). Your donation will contribute to the following areas integral to SSCBC.

Sailing Development

A centrepiece of the Clubhouse redevelopment is the growth of our young sailors, whether they wish to sail socially or compete at state, national or international level.

Our Sailing Centre programs provide pathways for our most junior off-the-beach sailors through to our elite and Olympic classes, as well as our iconic Couta Boats. We were fortunate to celebrate the success of four of our Members who competed in the Tokyo Olympics in the 49er and 49erFX classes, all of whom started their sailing as juniors at SSCBC. This year we have also seen many of our juniors competing internationally during our off season at the European and Asian World Championships, so we look forward to supporting and nurturing this group of juniors as they fulfil their sailing dreams in the future.

Our Clubhouse redevelopment will provide a fit-for-purpose Sailing Centre, with state-of-the-art training facilities for on shore teaching. We have our newly built sailing shed at the east end of the building, providing dedicated storage for our sailing centre families.

Community Supporter

Our Club’s proud history of being a place for Members to connect with our community will be enhanced with the redevelopment. Members will be able to connect, not just within SSCBC, but have the opportunity to engage with those within the Mornington Peninsula, through strategic relationships, supporting charities and engagement with schools and community groups.

  • Our expanded hospitality spaces will continue to be a place for events, lunches and charity days; and
  • Our training and conference facilities will allow us to run training for water safety, the Bosun program and larger school sailing days.

Jetty Maintenance Program

In partnership with SSCBC, donate specifically to the necessary maintenance works of the jetty. The jetty is in need of vital works which include the replacement of many support posts and related infrastructure. The budgeted cost for 2022 is $60,000.

Preserving The History Of Our Majestic Couta Boats

The Couta Boat was developed for the coastal fishing industry over the later part of the 19th century. Couta Boats today owe their survival to the efforts of a small group of individuals with a keen sense of history and admiration for working maritime traditions.

The Club has worked closely with heritage consultants and a small team of Members to ensure that the Couta Boat displays and design of the redeveloped Clubhouse will allow the tradition to live on for those members and visitors of the club who are not hands on sailors.
