Tenders and Ferrying

Bosun Tender Service / Member Ducks
  • The SSCBC team will be providing Members access to their moored boats as well as managing our on water sailing schedule.
  • We will be alternating between a Bosun Tender Service and Member Ducks available.
Member Ducks
  • 5 minutes to access your boat quickly or bring it to the jetty or return it to the moorings.
  • Initially in the mornings, ducks available to Members will have Members Duck flags on them (as pictured above).
  • These are self drive and are for getting out to your boat – doing a quick job (5 minutes) or bringing your boat into the jetty.
  • It’s not for going out to rewire the stereo or bilge pump as others may need the duck and we share.
  • Get a friend to run you out if you will be a while.
  • The Member Ducks are restricted to the Erlandsen Moorings area – They are not allowed past the Sisters or the Baths.
  • Depending upon what’s happening and the time of day, there will be multiple Member Ducks available.
Bosun Tender Service (BTS)

Bosun on VHF 73 to tender you to and from your mooring.

The Bosun Tender Service involves a rostered Bosun in a RHIB operating as a tender to drive people to their boats or pick up upon request. If requesting, call BTS directly on VHF 73 – Do not call the tower – If there is no answer from BTS then use a Member Duck.

Couta Boat Racing Priority

After the Couta Boat briefing – usually 1.5 hrs before the warning signal – complete Couta Boat crews will be prioritised by BTS, single or partial crew drop offs will have to wait until there are no complete crews left to tender out.

Members not involved in racing will need to wait until Couta Boat BTS is completed before requesting the service.

Exceptions.

Limited exceptions to these policies may be approved in advance by the Sailing, Training or Maintenance Manager.

PFDs
PFDs are required to be worn by all occupants in a vessel under 4.8m. If a person gets onto a club boat without a PFD then they, rather than the person with a PFD steering the boat, become the master of the vessel and will be responsible for fines issued for not wearing a PFD

Operating a duck

  • Only for use of Members
  • Check fuel, wear PFD, start engine before casting off, secure bowline inside boat.
  • Visually check before reversing
  • Respect the 5 knot speed limit.
  • Turn off engine when not driving
  • Ducks are to be left on the downwind /down tide side of the jetty
  • In most conditions use the full length of the painter – Short tie ups wear the pontoons out and damage them

Authorised Contractors

Contractors doing work on a member’s boat may use a duck after first receiving specific permission from a manager and completing any induction required. Members should notify the club of anticipated works.

Co-operation and Respect

  • It is essential that members co-operate with each other and the teams that are working to operate the club.
  • Members are required to respect the limits and privileges of the service and the operating staff.
  • Members do not have any special priority or entitlement to services outside these parameters.
  • Members are not permitted to pursue an issue or argue with Instructors, Coaches, Bosuns, Assistants or Trainees.
  • Special requests, suggestions or issue resolution must be done via the Sailing, Training or Maintenance Managers.
