Announcement – Chief Executive Officer

After an extensive executive search process, guided by an independent professional firm specialising in sporting club appointments, I am pleased to announce that Henry Dyer has been appointed as our new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

From a field of 37 applicants comprising executives with ranges of sailing, club management and general management skills; with progressive short listing, Henry’s skills, experience and knowledge of the Club overwhelmingly demonstrated to the Committee that he was the best person for the job.

Henry will be well known to many of our Members as he has been our Food & Beverage Manager, working with SSCBC on a contract basis for the past 12 months or so. In that role Henry has been instrumental in getting our F&B operations back on track. He has put together a great team who love coming to work each day, who love working for our Club. The success of our catering last summer, and continuing through the winter months, is a testament to Henry’s managerial skills, his enthusiasm and passion in tackling his work.

But running SSCBC involves more than F&B. Although Henry is new to sailing, he is not new to managing and building businesses. Since 2008 Henry has developed a catering business and an equipment hire business in Dubai. The catering business services major events and employs over 70 staff. Along the way Henry has managed the overall design and construction of kitchen and other catering facilities – experience that will be very useful in the design of our catering facilities in the Clubhouse redevelopment.

Our sailing and sail training continue to grow and prosper at SSCBC, guided by our excellent staff. Henry is looking forward to “getting across” what we do in sailing, and to supporting and guiding our continued success in sailing and training. We are already talking about ways to strengthen our Couta boat fleet.

Having worked at SSCBC, Henry has a good understanding of our Member needs and the services we provide to our Members. He has already developed a good rapport with many of our Members. Similarly, he has seen the great work done by our volunteers, the partnerships with our sponsors and the commitment the Club has to community engagement.

I am confident that Henry is going to provide new ideas and new leadership on all these aspects of what makes us such a great Club.

As Henry says: “I am very excited to be chosen as the CEO of SSCBC. I firmly believe that I can bring some great ideas, leadership, management and support for all the wonderful activities going on at SSCBC. I look forward to satisfying the Members’ needs and working with the Committee to take SSCBC to the next stage in its development as one of Australia’s leading sailing clubs.”

Henry will formally start his new role on Monday 30 September. Meanwhile, please say hello to Henry and congratulate him when you are next down at the Club.

Regards,
Graham Cunningham
