Spitfire is a boat with a rich history. She was built by Alex Lacco in 1951
In 1984 she was renamed Rose. She capsized and sank near the Portsea Hole in 1986. After four years divers found her and was restored at the WoodenBoat shop. In 1991 she was sold, became Spitfire again and C666. She won the Portsea Cup in 1998.
In 1999 she was purchased by David Barnes and has raced regularly over the years in Division 2.
Spitfire is one of the most well maintained boats in the Couta fleet at Sorrento and recent work includes: 2019/2021, a new floor of Iroko planking fixed with bronze screws . New rigging was installed in 2023. Recent repairs to the tabernackle and mast, added four new chainplates and replacement of shrouds means Spitfire is in excellent condition. She come with a full set of sails. The main, a Number 1 jib, Number 2 jib with furler and a boat cover.

Her mooring is EET 148 is one of the closest to the Sailing Club pier and was fully inspected In September 23 and fitted with a new galvanised chain and shackles. Peninsula Underwater Services has advised it has a swing room suited to a vessel up to 10m.

She’s a beautiful classic couta boat that’s been well cared for and is ready to be enjoyed by a new owner or syndicate.
