Couta Boat Winter Series

The Couta boat winter series wrapped up on the weekend with another two races completed on Saturday. Sunday racing was abandoned due to the strong wind warning that also saw all the dinghies in the Gill Midwinters kept ashore until 11.30 due to the 26+ knot gusts and quite a sea state.

Like last year, the Couta boats shared a race course with the larger dinghies, skiffs, cats and Wasps. This meant the Coutas needed a different perspective, keeping a thorough lookout and thinking really early about mark rounding, as the faster boats came in at speed and at different angles. It was pleasing that everyone got along well and the fleets were delighted to have so many more sailors and boats at the Club.

Wagtail won the Div 1 Handicap series, followed by Sorrento and another tie break between Romy and Phoenix, breaking in favour of Romy.

In Div 2, Morning Star won the Handicap series followed by Fiona and another tie break between Alicia and Lucy went in favour of Aliscia. Quite unusual to have just half a point separating 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Morning Star and Aliscia were a tie for Line Honours with two wins and a second each, but because Morning Star had the win in the last race it was broken in her favour. Wagtail had a picket fence.
