The Couta Coaching Program can be broken into three areas:

  1. Couta Crew Course: This is the ideal first step to get involved with Couta Boats at SSCBC. Our Couta Crew Course runs over two sessions which are 2 hours long. The aim of the course is to teach the basic crew components needed to feel comfortable sailing in another Member’s Couta Boat.
  2. Couta Racing: This is our more active program. We aim to have Ripple competing at every Club race throughout the season. We will have between 3-4 spots available each Club race for those wishing to join in. Please email [email protected] to join our crew.
  3. Couta Cruise: This is an on water experience which could be a birthday surprise, Corporate treat or a family outing. Please enquire at [email protected] to find out more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a Member to sail on a Couta Boat? No, you do not need to be a Member to sail at SSCBC, in our training courses or on a race day as part of a crew. From 1 January 2022, any crew on a boat will need to have a SailPass, which will be done through your Skipper’s crew register.

How long does the course go for? The training course runs for two sessions of two hours each.

How much is the training course? Members is $160, Non-members is $200

Can I charter a Couta Boat for a day with my family? Absolutely. We can provide a unique day out with your family. We will provide a skipper and one crew member to accompany you. You can either get your hands salty and join the crew, or sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.

Do I need experience to race on a Couta Boat? We recommend those new to sailing, or even those who need to freshen up their skills, to complete a Couta Coaching course first. Our sailing team can assist to make sure the conditions are right to go out for the first time.
