SSCBC Opening Day 2019-2020

SSCBC Opening Day for Season 2019-2020 was held on Saturday 16 November 2019. The Ceremony kicked off at 1100hrs in The Clubhouse, with Commodore Graham Cunningham welcoming everyone and providing an overview of the season ahead, social happenings, staff changes and the exciting regattas coming up this summer, including the 2020 Australian Youth Championships, the RSX World Windsurfing Championships and the Opti State Champsionships in March 2020.

Graham also announced the name of our new Highfield Rib – Jos Law. Jos has been an incredible contributor to the Club over many years. Whenever we have required special trophies, pieces of art to give as gifts, assistance with the internal decoration of the Club, external pieces of art work for the building – Jos has provided. Somewhat under the radar , she is an essential part of the fabric and culture of this Club. Jos’s family sails and goes boating here. She is a very successful and well known artist who voluntarily makes her talents available to the club. We are thrilled to have our beautiful new boat named after Jos.

Vice Commodore Drew Marget (in Club Captain Scott Llewelyn’s absence) provided an overview of the season ahead for Couta Boats, Off The Beach boats and the Training Centre. Our new Junior Club Captains were announced: Annabelle Williamson and Elle Sankey. Congratulations to Annabelle and Elle. The girls were each presented with an embroidered Gill jacket to proudly wear throughout the year as they perform their official duties as Junior Club Captains.

David White presented about the upcoming season for the Training Centre and participated in the Q&A with the team who represented the Club at the 2K Global Team Race Regatta held at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes, UK. The team certainly looked smart in their GANT uniforms. It is great to hear about how active team racing is at SSCBC.

Following the Ceremony and the traditional sail past, four races were held in the Fred Allen Series for the dinghies, and the Couta Boats enjoyed the first aggregate race of the series for the Sam Byrne & Ted Silbereisen Memorial Trophies.

Thank you to everyone who attended Opening Day. Safe sailing and we’ll see you on the water!
