Red is OCS and needs to keep clear of blue as she returns to the start.
Last week we finished off the last of the ‘normal’ or ‘common’ rules about right of way. We’ve covered 95% of when boats meet.
This week it’s exoneration and a few other rules.
Exoneration is the critical rule that prevents the keep clear boat from being penalised in certain situations like mark room or when another boat had to give you room to keep clear.
The other rules are quite uncommon and very easy to learn- Keep clear when taking a penalty or OCS returning to start. Avoid other boats racing or until they have gained control after a capsize.
